How to make an apron out of a dress

Since I am a semi-DIY'er, I thought about making an apron out of a dress. Here are the steps, it's very easy.
1. This is the dress, it is actually a girl's dress that I thrifted for just a dollar. You will need a dress that is smaller than a dress that you actually wear unless you want a long apron.
 2. Cut it on the sides leaving the hem on the side that you will use for apron (front) to avoid frilling.
 3. This is how it will look like after cutting.

4. Cut four strips of ribbons, two of the same length. Two of the strips will be longer than the other two. You can also use a scrap fabric or elastic bands.

5. Use a lighter to run through the ends to avoid frilling. Do this for all the ribbons.

6. Sew the ribbons to the remainder of the dress. One for each shoulder (smaller ribbons) and one for each waist (longer ribbons).
7. Optional -- You can add rosettes or other embelishments of your choice.

Tada! my apron is done. I also made one for RC.

Just to show, my ribbon is from Goodwill for $0.99. This project cost me $2.00 and my own labor.

Please ignore the wet t-shirt.  My hair was still wet here so I got the back of my shirt wet too.

I hope you like this tutorial. Thanks for visiting.

Happy Mother's Day

I know this is late. What made you busy on mother's day?

This four layer delight was made by my husband for mother's day. I suggested that we put some decoration on it and but did not turn out too good. The food color was too red and was making a mess and then I thought of putting the Pringles sticks to write on it.

It tasted really good, after all taste (maybe aside from food safety) is what  matters most. Our tummies were happy. Maybe next time when I make something like this, I would blog how I did it. For this pie, the crust was the best of all the layers. We used walnuts, cream cheese, vanilla jello and whip cream.

Win a Free Ipad!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of ogilvy for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’m not as technical as some, but I know the biggest thing to hit the computer world lately is the amazing Apple iPad. It’s much smaller and lighter than a normal laptop and has fantastic graphics. Some come WiFi enabled and others use either AT&T or Verizon’s monthly services for internet access. I prefer the WiFi enabled because you can access the internet anywhere there is WiFi, which is becoming very easy to find these days, at coffee shops, airports, hotels, and even your wireless router that you use for home internet access.

I know many people who have iPads and they all love them. One of the best things about an iPad is the ability to download applications, which are called apps for short. There are hundreds of thousands of apps that are available for download covering any subject you can think of.

There are apps for the weather, for traffic, for finding restaurants, for buying concert tickets, really anything you can imagine. One of the coolest apps I’ve found is an application magazine, or appazine for short. It’s called “the collection” app. It will be a monthly appazine with global topics and published in three languages including English, German and Chinese.

You can stay current on global current events and besides the first-class articles, it also has audio, photos and video. And to launch their great appazine, they are running a contest to win a free iPad! You just tweet to enter  and send the tweet “Stay up-to-date with current events by using #thecollection iPad App.  So all you iPad owners, try this new appazine by downloading it from the App Store.

Don't forget to tweet to enter!

What I learned: That it actually takes a lot of time if you join more than a couple of blog hops. A lot of them, you will have to follow  three hosts to join, then copy the badge and leave comments. But I am not complaining! I love blog hops and I thank the hosts for giving me a chance to meet fellow bloggers who are trying to gain more readers just like I do. I'll try to catch up probably tomorrow. It would be interesting to see more blogs that I haven't visited before.

Tinolang Manok (Chicken Papaya)

This is how I made our chicken papaya, my own version.

1. Sautee ginger and onion

2. Added chicken, cook both sides.

3. When the chicken is brownish, you can add water. I did no exacct measurements, I just made the water up to where it can almost cover the entire contents of the pan.

4. Also add fish sauce. I suggest tasting it so the flavor won't be either overwhelming or bland. (No picture)

4. When the chicken is tender, you can the papaya

5. When papaya is tender, you can add spinach. One way of making my life easy is buying a ready to eat or ready to cook vegetables just like the covered spinach below.

6. After about  5 minutes, the chicken papaya is done.

What I learned: Use appropriate amount of fish sauce or probably add more spices so it wouldn't taste bland. I should have tasted it during the cooking process just like how my grandma did it. It's okay to substitute leafy vegetables. Spinach is actually a substitute of the real leaves used for this dish.

Another learning: Don't forget to take pictures! I should have taken a picture of the dish served in a bowl or in a plate with rice.

I have been neglecting this blog for awhile. I hope I don't bore you with my exotic recipes here.
